Ricky Martin…father of the year…seriously? Hasn’t he only been a father for over a month??? Come on People en Espanol…you just lost a ton of credibility. Ricky should have received the male Humanitarian of the Year and Shakira Female Humanitarian of the Year.
Ricky has done sooo much for so many worth while causes. To award him with a silly father of the year after only a month is insulting!!!

I soooooooo agree with ESEenSANDIEGO, to name Ricky Martin “Father of the Year” is really ridiculous. The babies aren’t even a year yet! How is he already going to be father of the year. Come onnnn People in Espanol! Let’s get it together.
Congraduations, to Shakira. She deserves it. An amazing Latina! She does so much for childern of Latin America. I wasn’t surprise that she was name Humanitarian of The Year, I don’t know if i could of anyone else that deserves it more besides Shakira. Congraduations again.

Shakira, a FAMOUS TAX EXILE, lives in the Bahamas because she doesn’t want to pay taxes to her home country Colombia.
“A tax exile is one who chooses to leave a country and instead to reside in a foreign nation or jurisdiction because personal taxes there are appreciably lower or even nil. Going into tax exile is a means of tax mitigation or avoidance.”
How can you congratulate a person who as a millionair avoids paying her due taxes like normal honest person should?
People en Español doesn’t know this about her or what??? They don’t care?
She is so fake and a hypocrite. Why do you keep kissing her ass here?

How can you NOT congratulate Shakira for what she does for childern of Latin American and all over the world? Her charity, Pies Descalzos (Barefoot Foundation), helps thousands of displaced children in Colombia. Shakira has donated, so much money to different parts of the country including, forty millions to Nicaragua and Peru to help with natural disasters, 5 million dollars that went towards educational projects benefiting children across Latin America. I don’t know about you but 40 & 5 million dollars are alot of money that she gave from the goodness of her heart.
Now, before you start calling Shakira a “fake and a hypocrite” make sure you look in the mirror your not perfect yourself, when was the last time you donated money towards a good cause?

I’m sick and tired of artists NOT paying taxes and acting like they are donating money?
They are just feeling guilty for robbing the system, the other thing that drives me nuts is the fact that MOST artists do the whole cross-over only keep and or donate money to other countries!
What about donations to the United States?
There are people here that are poor, hungry and
destitute as well.
I will congratulate Shakira when she donates and or pays taxes in the United States.

Ricky deserved to be Star Of The Year for his philanthropy, not for “El Papá Del Año”. Undoubtedly he’ll be a great father but he hasn’t had enough experience yet. I’ve never heard of most of those people. Congratulations to Shakira, who in her own way is doing something for impoverished children.

Alessandra thanks for asking, since I do dedicate my life to social work specifically causes close to the Latino community, I am speaking from experience when I say that there are plenty of causes here that artists could donate money to, I mean when there is a disaster anywhere in the world the United States always helps, but look at Katrina alot of families are now left without homes and or separated all over the United States.
I’m just saying it’s a difficult pill to swallow when people make so much money from the United States and then decide to donate to other countries when we have causes right here in our backyard!

Shakira is from Colombia. Obviously, you help your people (Latinos) first before you go helping another race. Why is she going to go help a different race, when their are alot of people being killed and childern who don’t have education in Colombia. Come on nowwwww. electogogo I agree with you. These people are just crazy and need someone to hate on, its sad that it is Shakira. I don’t understand why people just can’t be happy that a Latina is doing good.

Query, when you say “people”, are you referring to just foreigners?
So you are upset because People en Espanol has chosen to recognize the philantrophic work of one little girl from a third world country, who through sheer talent, determination, and hard work has managed to do the almost impossible task of making it as one of the biggest pop stars around the world, and in the process, she is siphoning off precious dollars off the US economy and then sharing some of them to her own people who have absolutely nothing they can’t even afford to dream? This upsets you because you think that money should have stayed in the US?
Hey, listen, first, to quote that annoyingly overplayed hips dont lie song, “we ain’t guilty its a musical transaction.” Whatever she earns, she deserves it. I mean its a free market right? Is not that an American ideology? I mean if I apply your kind of thinking to my situation, then I should be so totally upset with Beyonce and Christina for taking our precious few Philippine peso they took when they had their concerts here and then flying back home without donating a single centavo to a local cause. Could you see how ridiculous that argument is?
And how about the other non-American celebrities who earn money in the US? Coldplay? James Blunt? Simon Cowell? The models Giselle? Alessandra? Adriana? Heidi? Karolina? British actors and producers? Jo Rowling? Are you upset with them as well for earning big bucks in the US and giving very little back in terms of donations or are you just singling out Shakira because of this award?
If you’re upset that American stars such as Jolie, Pitt and Clooney are focusing on Africa when there are a lot of other causes right in your own backyard, fine. Be upset with them, but it’s not fair to deny Shakira this recognition simply because her main focus understandably is serving her own people - Colombians and South Americans in general.
“I will congratulate Shakira when she donates and or pays taxes in the United States.”
First, we both don’t know if she does or doesn’t donate money to causes in the US. I think she donated something during Katrina but then again, lots of celebrities did, even non-Americans. To criticize her for something unconfirmed is unfair. Secondly, she pays taxes in the US, every foreigner does or should. A foreign tennis player who wins the top prize in the US Open does not take it all home, I think up to 30% tax is withheld from the prize. I am sure something like that applies to Shakira and other non-Americans as well so you can rest assure that she is not taking it all away from your country and that she is paying her taxes, at least if her ahem, lawyer is doing it right.
“Since I do dedicate my life to social work specifically causes close to the Latino community, I am speaking from experience when I say that there are plenty of causes here that artists could donate money to…”
Then my hats off to you. You have my most sincere respect. To quote, well, Shaki from this article, “There are people sometimes who help the most just by giving a few words of encouragement, a priceless gesture of love towards a child, which is more valuable than donating money with indifference.” So my question is, since you both seems to be dedicated to helping your beloved hispanic community, why not work with her instead of criticising her? If I’m not mistaken, Pies Descalzos has a Miami branch or something. Why not make Shaki aware that there are Latinos in the US who need her help as much as the Latinos in South America does? Wouldn’t that be more productive?
As for her doing charity work because of guilt of not paying taxes to her homeland, it’s important to note that she established FPD at the tender age of 18, long before she became this big or this rich, long before she lived in The Bahamas.
In February, the school in La Playa that Shakira worked so hard for along with Ms Emma Maria Mejia and other Barranquilleros will open and almost 2000 children who before was displaced, abandoned, and had absolutely nothing will finally have something, an opportunity to educate themselves and maybe then, they can afford to dream. For that alone, I think Shakira deserves this award along with the people of Fundacion Pies Descalzos.
