Ricky Martin2.jpgLast night we joined the celebrities at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in New York to honor Ricky Martin as the Person of the Year. There were some good things and not so good things.

This is a really big honor and Ricky Martin is a huge star both in the Latin and mainstream worlds. Big stars like Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony attended and sat at Ricky’s table. It was great- a Puerto Rican Power table. Jennifer and Marc kind of stole the spotlight, but not on purpose. You can tell they were really there to support Ricky.

The music was outstanding. Ednita Nazarios sang Volveras, Juan Luis Guerra sang Vuelve, Mari de Chamboa sang La Bomba, Gilberto Santa Rosa sang Lola Lola, Miguel Bose sang I am Made of You, and Calle 13, Don Omar, and Voltio performed a mix of reggaeton styled songs. Ricky even sang Pegate. Others that sang included Luis Fonsi, Hector El Father, Fonseca, and Obie Bermudez. Kike Santander, Ludacris, and Emilio Estefan all spoke as well.

The downside to last night was that, aside from the performers, there were a ton of D-list people floating around, we assume, waiting to get discovered. On the flipside, there were hardly any big time mainstream celebs there. Ricky has worked with the likes of Sting and Madonna, but, nope, not present.

We all know Madonna is in town for her ‘adoption media blitz‘, and we’re just saying it would have been nice to see her support Ricky (sans La Vida Loca madness surrounding him).

Either way, the main focus was to concentrate on Ricky and his trajectory and we congratulate him on this incredible honor!
