I am Puerto Rican by blood, but I was raised by white foster families growing up. I know that english was my 2nd language, but now I crave to know *my* language. My husband is also Puerto Pican, and we have 3 children together…’crackers’ as my neighbor says, since they don’t speak or understand more than 40 words in espanol. To the point…I don’t usually listen to Spanish music. I have never been drawn to it except maybe some reggeton for a party, UNTIL I saw Luis Fonsi’s new video! Something about it drew me in and has helped me grasp more words than I knew before watching and re-watching this video! Who would have thought a song would teach me so much of our shared language when 3 years of high school spanish did nothing. UGH! Attention sisters and brothers…when you are adults, please look into becoming foster parents for children of your culture. I will always love the parents I had (all 30+ of them) but if I had parents who were Puerto Rican, I think I would be a lot happier today! 100%!
