emilio+gloriaPresident Barack Obama will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, to Gloria and Emilio Estefan later this month.

Film director Steven Spielberg, the late baseball player and manager Yogi Berra, and theater composer Stephen Sondheim were also named recipients.

Obama will present the medals November 24th at the White House.

Emilio responded with a black and white picture of a couple walking in the Capital of the US, saying:

“This picture reflects every step that we took with a responsibility to give back and to follow our dreams! Receiving the news about being awarded the medal of freedom, (which is one of the biggest honors a US citizen can attain) reminds us how much the word FREEDOM really means! It brings back a lot of memories, especially with my mom and dad and when I was a little kid. When you come from another country to the U.S. It’s a hard journey but the U.S. has been and always will be our home. I’d like to thank the President and everyone who was involved in making this dream a reality! God bless America!”
