Don Omar Stereotypes Latinos in New Album
Don Omar is only helping to reinforce the stereotypes against many Latinos!
His song Sexy Robotica from his new album talks about drugs and relates them to Colombia and Washington Heights, which is primarily composed of Dominicans.
He does nothing to help the Latinos communities by linking them to cocaine and marijuana.
Thanks for nothing!
The lyrics go as follows:
Y un polvo magico que hechiza
Finisimo de Colombia pues
Fuma cigarro que da risa
straight from Washington Heights

Why would we expect anything less from him? were you expecting an album that was a masterpiece and that had positive and insightful lyrics?

well the song can’t be that bad in that it is picking up speed everywhere and people request it. i don’t see why we judge when it just music. no one said anything if what is said to be true and if u believe that then there is something wrong. and if it is true, can’t help what you see when it is right there. i think one should ask Don Omar what he was getting at to be honest before we all judge. other artist do this too and in different races and you don’t see the people judging them for it because it is music which is suppose to be in fun and in entertainment and if one doesn’t it like it they don’t have to listen.

hey, you Latinas do have sluts like Paulina Rubio and Alejandra Guzman performing on stage the manner they do, so I do not wonder there is that sterotype. Some ladiez do nothing to change it…

Oh please. The song is a love song - a song of adoration.

It would be a sin to not adore her.

The only way to reverse a stereotype is to eliminate the reason for it. He as a rich man can help by sponsoring programs for drug addicts, alternatives for kids, etc. He’s making money off of Latinos so he should give back.

Hey Colleen, he should ‘give back?’ Wasn’t he just chosen this week by the US Hispani cHeritage Foudation as the 2009 Inspiration award winner and feted for his work with autistic children, among other philanthropic pursuits? He is also opening an orphanage in the DR. Did you by any chance come across one of the many serious articles on the great speech he gave? You won’t find them on a gossip site.
This award stuff all happened on Capitol Hill - yup, washington,dc - the award was basically for being a bigtime positive ‘example for youth’. Kudos.
You don’t know what you’re talking about. You’ve got NO idea who the man is. Now to hear him ROCK the crowds in the pre parade festivities in NY on Saturday.

Nosotros no queremos callar nuestra verdad.

‘latinas’ behave like harlots either on the media or in the streets. The stereotype (unfortunately) is the one our own women have given themselves and have nobody to blame for. But then again what can we expect when we idolize the likes of J-Lo, Eva Longoria and Co.
A bit of morality would go a long long way.
‘Latin’ culture…. thanks but no thanks
