Daddy Yankee Giving Scholarships To Lost Youths
Through his foundation, Daddy Yankee is giving away scholarships so that select young prisoners can get their lives back on track, go to a university, and form a proper career.
While we congratulate Daddy on helping others, we can’t help but think about the countless kids who have NEVER committed a crime and are eager to go to college, but don’t have the means to do so.
Call us crazy, but we’d rather help the good ones.

Amazing!!! Now I agree on how some others may be in need but at the same time these young prisoners deserve a second chance. We don’t know the story of these individuals and knowing that someone is believing in them is great. I hope these youngsters take it and do well.
High 5 Daddy Yankee!!!!!

Yeah, I think SOME ex-prisioners deserve a second chance…sometimes no one wants to hire them at jobs and ..well at least he’s helping them…there’s a lot of other scholarships for good students out there…and this is something different.. Go Daddy!

I happen to think that prisoners are treated better than some needy families. They have cable, eat balanced meals, have medical and dental available and also receive a free education. Me, on the other hand, I had to watch my mother and father work 3-4 jobs just to stay off welfare. I didn’t make strait A’s in high school so I didn’t get a scholarship. I’ll be in debt with school loans until I’m 45! We had it hard, but it made me stronger. If you do something bad enough to go to prison - oh well! Maybe you should have thought about your actions before you did them. You commit a crime, serve your time and move on with your life. Criminals shouldn’t be rewarded with scholarships - I wasn’t, but it’s good to know that if I was a drug dealer, I probably could have gone to school for free.

@ gabe’s wife: maybe these kids didn’t even have parents to provide for them and thats why they got into trouble and crime! These kids are already disadvantaged so they need to the help to get on track. @Daddy Yankee: Te kiero papito!!!!

It’s funny that we talk about not allowing young people in prison a second chance at a better education…and for that matter at a better life, simply because it is assumed that they are in jail for the bad things. Let me first say that I am a 4th year UCR student and I am currently taking a class called psychology and law. Before I got to this class I used to believe the same thing most of us think, that all the people that go or are in jail…no age, sex, or race barrier are guilty of what they were accused or convicted of…but it turns out that 154 people of the 210 DNA exonerations on the innocents project website were convicted based on mistaken identification…in other words, they were accused AND convicted of crimes they did not commit. The worst thing however, comes after the conviction has been made…when you apply for a job, school, scholarships, the first question is have you ever been convicted…? and if so, explain. How can you say no, when you were convicted, how can you explain the conviction as an error…the truth of the matter is that you just can’t! You have to check the yes box and explain why were you convicted…and this is the reason why people coming out of jail can’t get back on their feet.
Don’t get me wrong, because just like many of you, I am also for helping the good kids too…but those coming out of prison also need a little help…especially the young ones. In conclusion, I am in great support of Daddy Yankee…he is doing big things for his people! No matter who he helps, were he starts, he is taking the first step to create change, to make a difference.
