Latinos Voice New Disney Film
Disney is coming out with an animated film titled South of the Border starring Salma Hayek, Andy Garcia, George Lopez, Cheech Marin, Piolin, Paul Rodriguez, Placido Domingo, and Edward James Olmos.
The film is about a chihuahua, voiced by Drew Barrymore, who is carried around in a bag all the time and, while on vacation, gets lost. She ends up meeting a bunch of Latinos along the way who try to help her.
How many Latino stereotypes will there be in the film? We’re sure tons, but if it’s done right, it could be real amusing. It’s healthy to be able to laugh at yourself.

The stereotypes are in the american films and productions also, buuuut you know, it’s a latin film obviously they’re going to do something in a wrong way.
But talking about stereotypes even Salma Hayek do them in Ugly Betty, why Diseny can’t do it too?…

i agree! i kind of lost respect for salma after seeing the ugly betty episode in mexico. I thought she would represent us differently from what we usually see on tv about mexico. This movie will just be a big stereotype, at least they should use real Mexican actors. Andy Garcia, George Lopez, Cheech Marin, Paul Rodriguez, Placido Domingo, and Edward James Olmos! WHATA F*!
George Lopez, Cheech Marin, and Paul Rodriguez are just bad representations of Mexico. they don’t even know what it means to be Mexican and they make all their money by giving us more stereotypes. THEY SUCK! If you want to see good representations of Mexico take a look at Gael, Diego, Alfonso Cuaron, Guillermo Del Toro, and Alejandro. These people are real MEXICANS!

By the way, Andy Garcia isn’t mexican!…
But I think Salma did that shit with the Mexican Episode because she couldn’t travel to Mexico to tape the scenes ($$$$$$) so she “made up” a Mexico… but she did crap!…
THAT’S NOT MEXICO…
But c’mon even Gonzales Iñarritu used HUGE stereotype in BABEL!…

En vez de Drew Barrymore, deberían pedirle a la estúpida de Jessica Alba que haga de la chihuahua. That way it would be more true to life.
I think Salma is doing a great job with Ugly Betty. Every single stereotype Salma showed there can be found in any Televisa telenovela, where it is rendered in an even more one-dimensional manner. Most telenovela characters are borderline offensive caricatures of so-called Latino stereotypes epecially the ne that are supposed to be “funny”. I saw what Salma did more as poking fun at the world of telenovelas (where she got her start, incidentally) than poking fun at her culture, which I don’t believe Salma would ever do. To me, he is a wonderful example of the positive things a Latina can achieve in the entertainment industry. Unlike, say, Jessica Alba!
