Fidel Castro Resigns as President
Fidel Castro has resigned as President of Cuba, saying:
I neither will aspire to nor will I accept, the position of president of the council of state and commander-in-chief.
Even though his brother is taking over permanently, we still feel like this is the end of an era…and hopefully the beginning of a brighter one.
Today, we celebrate with our Cuban brothers and sisters!

Actually their prayers have not been answered; as most Cubans pray for him to drop dead. LOL Hopefully though this is the first step towards many more much needed changes.

I mean yeah finally but his brother is taking over what is the difference? It’s still a crazy Castro taking over. I wish them all the best and pray and hope that it does get better over there for the cuban people.

No creo que hay mucho para celebrar, pero lo menos no es Alarcón que lleva el poder. Raúl parece un poco mas abierto a nosotros.

Let’s be honest, this was just a “formality” as his brother has pretty much been in control since Castro had surgery. Now that the announcement has been made; the Cuban regime may tighten their restrictions / hold on the people in order to deter / stop any possible uprisings that could be in the plans now that Castro has stepped down.
Like I said, I hope this is a step towards many more needed changes and, eventually, a better and free life for the people of Cuba.

I I am curious…is there anyone that is concerned that the US will use this as an ‘excuse’ to invade or otherwise ‘influence’ the country? I understand concerns about elections and issues of democracy. I felt that way during our previous two presendential elections. I do wonder how the US would have handled Cuban people ‘invading’ because we could not ‘get it together’ during our elections. By the way, my guess is that they could have found a lot of people that would have said something about how ‘lousy’ our democracy was operating after these recent elections? I mean people within the US? I am just wondering…what are peoples feelings about this?
