Calle 13 Not Getting Love From Puerto Rican Officials
Rene Perez got a lot off his chest at Los Premios MTV.
He and his message-emblazoned shirts had a lot to say about politics in Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, and Honduras.
Of course, not everyone is going to take his comments sitting down.
Puerto Rican mayors are uniting and canceling his concerts all over the island for having insulted the governor.
There is usually always a price to pay for free speech.

He can just perform over here, and when they start to get bored with the lack of entertaining artists they will quickly invite him back.

Not sure where you’re from, Morieth75, but free speech covers political criticism in the US AND territories. It may not be a smart thing to do, but it’s his right.
(Now THIS chulito deserves a calendar before Pee Wee! grrrrr)

The governor of Puerto Rico and all his party (including the 100 riquitos that he makes his decisions with) deserve the insult and more. If he wouldn’t have done that half of the world wouldn’t known what his happening in the Island. Freedom of speech is the only thing we have. Gracias René por decir en público lo que muchísimas personas y yo pensamos.

Yes we have a right to freedom of speech, but at the same time there can be a backlash over it and that is what is happening right now with Calle 13. Is it right what the government is doing? No. At the same time it just takes that one person to take a stand, win, lose or draw.

I’m for Puerto Rico Pablo, and I now exactly the meaning of free speech, but that was not criticism that was an insult and you do not protest with insults, atleast that’s what I think. And coming for PR I now what the situation is, I’m not agree with the governor but that doesn’t give nobody the right to call him an Hijo de p…. that was very low class of calle 13.

If Calle 13 did something wrong by saying insults, the government is doing something even worst. Why are they cancelling his concerts? what are they afraid of? Let those who agree with Calle 13 go to his concerts if they choose to do so. Freedom of speech should not have price!
But it’s so good to see the youth getting involved in politics… Doesn’t matter what side you are on, if we leave our countries to these “educated and well spoken government”… nos jodimos!

Don’t care what he says. He has a right, but freedom of speech and freedom are NOT free. You have to be prepared to pay the price. Maybe he is. If so, more power to him. My biggest gripe though is that celebs use events that are not appropriate for their rants. I say, use your own time, use your own dime. If I’m at a concert, I’m there to be entertained, not to hear you bitch. So shut up and sing. That’s what I’m paying you for. If you want to rant, but infomercial time or go on CNN!

So funny, how people think, that his comments were justified. Free speech yes, insults no. Everybody knows, that he is an independentista. His choice. That is why, different political parties exist, because everyone has different views. Now, I thought, that with his academic education, he would have taken a different approach. Let your views be heard but, not in such a low class way, un educated way.
