Why does everything have to be “racist”?
I’m sure that there is no ill-will behind it…and he’s definitely hot

Hot? No.
It is a clear illustration of the ignorance the world still suffers from regarding Native Americans.
What he is doing is the same as when High schools or Universities have an Indian as a mascot - WRONG.
What he did is simply disrespectful.
Native American’s regalia is not to be used as a costume. It is SACRED. SACRED. SACRED.
The feathers are earned through a lot of work and given via ceremony. Do people not think Native Americans already went through enough?
Aside from genocide, rape, torture and an almost successful eradication of culture, they don’t need this exploitation crap. There are a lot of legislative bills, organizations and other groups out in the society trying to stop these things from happening.
Chayanne, I suggest you get a little bit of that air out of your head.

That’s the problem:
Just because it’s Halloween everyone thinks it’s ok.
“Come on” “Relax” “It’s just a costume” – you hear that crap all the time.
But when you work with Native American youth and they tell you they feel ashamed and angry when they see these things, then maybe you will think differently.

Let Chay alone! He is wonderful person. The costume suits him great. I am sure he didn´t think anything wrong with it. As Boricua - I think he is descedant of some native-american tribe.

No, I’m totally with Iris here. If it was “only Halloween” he should put on a scary costume. Is he saying native cultures are “scary”? If so, that’s pretty bigoted. Otherwise, it’s ignorant at best.
I wouldn’t say Chayanne IS a racist, but this sort of costume is no less harmful than a white frat boy dressing up as a “day laborer” or stereotypical Mexicano caricature (giant sombrero, sarape, fake moustache, chanclas, etc.) or a sorority girl dressing up as a chola/pachuca.

And I am so with you Pablo - it is exactly the same thing.
Bottom line - don’t disrespect cultures. PERIOD.
Think a little harder before you do something and be sensitive to people’s beliefs.

Chayanne looks HOT!!!! It is halloween and people dress up. Maybe he admires native americans and that is why he choose that costume. People dress up as dead brides, pregnant grandmas( I’ve seen it), Ninjas, Geisas, Elvis, you name it! NOTHING wrong with dressing native american. It is not disrespectful. It’s not like he was running around with a bloddy scalp in his hand.

I dont know if he’s racist, but hes dumb for sure. And yes it is not right to dress up like a native. Thats not the clothes they used to wear. Its a cheap imitation and i think thats where the issue is right? I dont think he meant wrong but he should not have done that. What’s up with that stupid vest? That is not something they wore. Anywayz - I agree with the rest of the comments here. It’s just not right to do that.

SO, IF THATS NOT THE CLOTHES THEY USED TO WEAR, THEN WHAT THE FUCK IS THE PROBLEM?
BTW, PEOPLE WITH SUCH STRONG BELIEFS SHOULD NOT BE ON THIS KIND OF SITES OR THE INTERNET FOR THAT MATTER SINCE JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING IS GOING TO UPSET & OFFEND THEM. THEY SHOULD STAY IN THEIR LITTLE FUCKING SHELL SO AS TO NOT BE BOTHERED BY ANYTHING.
I KNOW I SURE AS HELL DONT GO AROUND HALLOWEEN GOING “MMMH, I’M GONNA BE A SERIAL KILLER, LET ME RESEARCH & SEE EXACTLY WHAT KIND OF CLOTHES THEY WEAR & HOW THEY KILL, & HOW THEY TALK & WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN” ITS A FUCKING COSTUME….
GET OVER IT. GET A FUCKIN LIFE LIKE YESENIA SAID!!!

I think the costume fits him perfectly, after all, he got the nickname Chayanne (he’s real name is Elmer) when he was little because he looked like a native-american character of a TV series. He definitely has Taino indian features and is a costume and is Halloween. Take a chill pill.

Hey Chayanne is Meztizo like the majority of us, so he’s got Native blood..so no biggie! I for one am proud of being part INDIO!! Now if you really want to get technical, he is wearing a Prairie cheif head dress which were not worn by the Indios del caribe..but besides that..it’s kool…..

wow crazy comments here. I completely agree with those who are against what he did. Yesenia & Mija I think ur problem is that you cant think outside the box. Just the way you talk shows that ur pretty stupid urself. Ur example about the serial killer is lame. That has nothing to do with culture.

ENOUGH OF THIS!!!!
I AM HALF NATIVE AND LATINA.
I AM 100% AGAINST IT.
IT IS REALLY OFFENSIVE LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE ALREADY SAID.
I SAW A BUNCH OF KIDS IN MY DAUGHTER’S SCHOOL DRESSED LIKE THAT AND MY DAUGHTER EVEN SAW THEM “CHANTING” AND ACTING LIKE THEY WERE INDIANS. MY DAUGHTER DIDNT LIKE IT AND NEITHER DID I.
THAT’S THE ISSUE – IT CONTRIBUTES TO NEGATIVE STEREOTYPES.
TAKE IT FROM SOMEONE WHO IS NATIVE OK!

if someone dressed up as a black person, would it be okay? what about say, a white woman, with the stereotypical ’stupid blond’ look? all of those would not be okay. so why is it okay to stereotype a native american? what makes me sick about my own people is that they willingly humiliate themselves and discriminate their own ancestors, while they love and protect their oppressor. how brainwashed!
