Premios Juventud 2008 : Gloria Trevi
Gloria Trevi, showing off sparkly pink hotpants everytime the fan blew her dress up, jumped around (no surprise there) and wiggled her wig around as she sang one of our not so favorite songs, Cinco Minutos.
She had been saying that everyone was going to be surprised with her performance. We weren’t.
We were, however, pleased to see that she is in top physical form. Jumping around and wailing your hair around must be a great exercise.

i happen to love la trevi and that song! im prolly one of the few people who was really impressed with her latest cd. i do give her props though, for singing live, even with all that jumping and head-banging and kicking she did. few other artists during the show did!

I also think that 5 minutos is one of the best songs of the year! In Mexico it has reached number two in the charts! Not even Todos Me Miran did that good even though it hit airplays all over Latin America and Spain! I didn’t like her performance and I wish it would have been better like she performed in Premios Lo Nuestro to Todos Me Miran! I also LOVEEEEEEE her latest cd. Gloria has talent!!!!!!!!!1

Gloria Trevi’s performance was indoubtedly the best female performance of the night. She, unlike Thalia, has no need to have millions of dancers on stage playing with fire and she does not depend on special effects. Gloria’s voice, attitude, carisma, dance moves, talent, and energy is enough to have the audience going wild. Her new single “Cinco Minutos” has been the #1 song in Latin America. It’s currently #2 in Mexico.
Gloria’s performance was not as spectacular as her Premios Lo Nuestro 2007, but it was still exhilarating. Gloria’s physique is outstanding!!!

Nothing against Thalia, I actually feel for her and her poor fans, BUT:
Unlike Thalía, Gloria sang live. And, unlike Thalía, Gloria’s song is actually IN the charts.
She makes a 40-24 leap on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay Chart (August 2. Issue) just in her second week.
She’s also #11 on the Radio and Records Latin Pop National Airplay Chart.
Pretty good, considering the single has just started playing in US. (song peaked at #2 in México on the National Airplay Chart as well as the Pop Airplay Chart, both in which she has been for 16 weeks and counting).
Una Rosa Blu has been certified GOLD by the RIAA in U.S. and has been certified PLATINUM by AMPROFON (México).
Tour Una Rosa Blu has been a huge success. She’s doing over 16 dates in the U.S. throughout August. (She’s already played ARENAS in L.A., Houston, and Chicago).
Universal Music international is realeasing her album simultaneously throughout U.S., Mexico, Latin America and Spain in September, a deluxe version with previously unreleased tracks and DVD with music videos.
She directed two of her videos (granted, not her best work) and she co-directed “Todos Me Miran” (nominated for Video of The Year at Premio Lo Nuestro 2007).
Her new single in México, “Pruébamelo” is already climbing up the charts, while “Cinco Minutos” has just been released internationally.
Oh, and there’s also the tiny fact that Gloria actually writes and creates the lyrics AND music for 90% of her songs.
Not too bad, I’d say.
