Los Premios MTV 2009 : Rene Perez
We are huge fans of Rene Perez of Calle 13 and we applaud most everything he does.
He was controversial and daring as host of Los Premios MTV and we loved that he had the guts to get his messages out there.
Plus, aside from all of the political and social agendas, he also gave his fans a shirtless shot.
What did you think of his hosting skills??

I love his music and I am glad he got his ideas out there but as a host of a show I think he was kind of rude to the performers and the show in general seemed like it wasn’t put together very well.
I was disappointed.

I second Rebecca… They tried to make a show about diversity, and all I saw were a bunch of people that didn’t have much in common… It was bland… I could see Rene trying really hard, and I agree with most of his comments, but what he said didn’t quite fit in with the production… To me it was to pop, to mainstream, latinoamerica it’s not so much about mainstream, but about ideals and originality and that was not original… MTV tries hard every year, but they haven’t yet been able to capture our essence… Paulina Rubio’s performance was a perfect example, the first part of the song with Cobra Starship was so awesome, her outfit fitted with that song, her whole look, the vibe, her voice, and then it change into her lame song and it was horrible, if I would’ve been that dude I would’ve felt embarrassed to sing those dumb lyrics… Taylor Swift was also boring, and that performance by Panda was the worst thing I’ve seen from them as was their acceptance speech, even they knew the other acts were better… Alejandro Sanz is way to old for MTV, or should I say not hip enough… And Cafe Tacuba deserved way more attention and hype then what they did for them, I mean Morrissey is cool and all, and everyone was exited to see him, but Cafe Tacuba deserved more and they need to sing… wow… just a few ideas…

i expected to see more buenos aires, since it felt like they completely forgot about that. the categories that they decided to showcase were horrible.
what the hell was up with fall out boy closing the show?!
everything felt rushed and not too well rehearsed, especially with the whole juxtaposition of Mexico DF, Bogota & BA.
too many musical acts for a 2 hour show, not enough categories and pick better presenters… ie Audrina from The Hills?!
loved morrissey and cafe tacuba (that would’ve been an incredible performance)

I totally agree with the fact that the show was super unorganized… It was way too choppy and overall kind of messy! It just lacked structure… I believe that both Rene and Nelly are amazing artist but as hosts they kind of sucked! Yeah there was controversy but it was awkward and not at all funny… They were not very fluid and had a lot of dead air! I liked it so much more when Diego Luna was the host… He was funny and intelligent. He also had a political agenda but he was not rude about it… Rene came off a little one sided and pushy… I also agree that there were too many people that did not belong there, Like Audrina frome the Hills…. total WTF moment… I’m not saying that it should only be Latinos there, but damn really! I really liked that there were a lot of performances, after all it is a Music award show… My favorite part of the night was when the Backstreet Boys gave an award to Reik, they are too of my all time favorite musical groups… that moment was pretty kewl… I wish either of them had performed instead of some of the random ass performers, Like Ashley Tisdale… Where was Camila and Luis Fonsi? Next year I hope they have a better show… We were finally given a platform for our music, we deserve better!

I don’t think this was the best MTV, it was so-so like. I hope next year get a little better!
Calle 13 is a urban music artist, so I’m sure he doesn’t really care if others think about if he acts rude, or speaks swear words, he is what he is everywhere he goes and expresses whatever he wants. Probably for some of you, its not THAT important about what Rene (Calle 13) said (the big word that he said in spanish to the governor of Puerto Rico, LOL). But I think he was expressing the same emotion that the people in Puerto Rico were demostrating during the march/strike (the reason why he seemed rude, demostrating how the people are feeling with the current situation in Puerto Rico). The gorvernor of Puerto Rico insulted the people of the country, especially the ones that HE unemployed) calling them terrorists, bugs (ticks or in spanish “garrapatas”.
