Roselyn Sanchez Was Cut From Pilot Over Her Accent
Roselyn Sanchez and Alejandro Chaban were both set to act in the new pilot for ABC’s Cutthroat, but out of nowhere they were both told that they were being let go.
Hey, that happens in Hollywood and it’s all part of the actor’s life.
Except, that it so happens that Roselyn was let go because of her accent!
We looked into this and discovered that Roselyn was set to play a character named Nina Cabrera. How much more Latina can you get than that? Wouldn’t a little accent help??
Plus, is Roselyn’s accent even that thick?
Is that why Alejandro was cut too?? He was supposed to play someone named Ivan. LATINO!
Is this a case of discrimination? Aren’t we supposed to be diversifying television?
Perhaps they should cast Jennifer Aniston and Zac Efron instead!!

Wow!!! I’ve heard both of them speak English, and it is just fine!! Sofia Vergara has a much thicker accent, but as you say, with a name with Nina Cabrera, what do they want??
Ridiculous! However, these two actors are very talented, may better and bigger opportunities come their way!

Fact is that most gabachos like to SEE latinos, but they need to HEAR…well, gabachos. No way Eva Parker would’ve been cast in DH if she sported an accent.

Roselyn was actually up for the role of Gabrielle Solis on DH but it went to Eva Longoria because of the same reason, she has an accent. Although I can’t imagine anyone else playing Gabrielle but Eva, that’s still screwed up.

That could also be an Italian name. I think Roselyn’s accent is more tough New York than anything else!

First of all, Roselyn was born and raised in Puerto Rico, she doesn’t have a New York accent.
I think this as disgusting as the Spanish channels wanting all actors to have a “neutral” (=mexican) accent. Why can they portrait the real world with people of different accents; British actors have an accent, people from Texas or Boston have a particular accent. Why can we see this on TV or movies? Why they do they want of to live in the bubble “we all sound the same in the US.”

La Verdad what the heck are you talking about? Mexican t.v. has more foreigners than actual mexicans! You’re a joke!
American television (and the country for that matter) has a history of racism and discrimination to go with it!
That’s that.

Chris, for your information, the foreign actors are sent to school to “neutralized” their accents. Spanish TV is dominated by the taste of their biggest marked: el mexicano. I’m not making this up.

She just didn’t get the part!
She doesn’t have the accent they were looking for!
Sometimes they look for neutral accents and sometimes what they call cleaning lady spanish, yes it’s an actual term in the industry.
When casting directors can’t pigeon hole you to a particular accent they just let you go.
Alot of money is spent on a pilot for it to have the wrong ethnic accent.
Just because you are latina does NOT mean you fit ALL latina parts!

She didn’t know her script/lines just before the shoot even though she was attached to the pilot for a month prior. Maybe the producers thought that was unprofessional to be unprepared. Adlibbing might not have cut it for an expensive, carefully crafted pilot.
